It is rapidly becoming essential for many nurse educators in nursing schools (Weaver 2011), as it overcomes challenges such as a limited number of clinical sites, especially in rural hospitals where certain types of patients or disease conditions are rare or patients have a shorter hospital stay (Piette et al. 2015).There is extensive evidence as summarized in recent systematic reviews, indicating that the HFPS learning concept is useful in nursing and midwifery education (Cooper et al. 2012; Lapkin et al. 2010; O'Leary, Nash, & Lewis 2015). Evidence summarized in these systematic reviews consistently indicates that the use of HFPS by undergraduate student nurses improves their knowledge acquisition, psychomotor skills, and clinical reasoning skills, self-confidence, as well as student satisfaction. However, there is a gap of knowledge regarding the effectiveness of HFPS learning concept in improving self-efficacy while reducing anxiety levels in student nurses. Anxiety in the sittings of learning has been described as a mastery state of fear, worries and apprehension (Santrock et al. 2010).…
Few articles have been proven patients and caregiver’s simulation education has a great outcome. Considering, it will help them to be knowledgeable to new skills…
It is important to note that the measurement of TSA has received far less attention than individual-based SA. In their classic paper, Prince et al. (1997) outlined the importance of measuring TSA. Firstly, in order to move theory beyond the conceptual phase development of psychometric measurement tools is imperative. Secondly, quantifiable indicators of team SA will help in articulating the constituents of good SA.…
I am writing for the New Graduate Nursing Program on the Emergency Room Trauma floor at University of Maryland Medical Center. I currently hold a Bachelor’s in Biology and I will be graduating in August 2015 from Howard Community College School of Nursing, I plan to take my boards in September 2015. Enclosed you will find my resume which expands on my qualifications. Through my clinical rotations, I gained knowledge and hands-on experience in different settings, but it was during the many different simulations and mock codes I have participated in that I have found the path I want to pursue, ER nursing. I have always liked to be challenged and consider myself as a problem solver who thinks on her toes.…
To address these challenges, for example, I applied the use of simulation as a bridge to link theoretical learning and practice learning in the clinical lab which developed critical reasoning and self-reflection in students in preparation for clinical placement at the…
Conference time includes lectures given by EM faculty, faculty from other areas of medicine, guest speakers and residents. Another thing the residency entails is Simulation and Procedure Labs. Simulations teach residents management of critically ill patients, treatment algorithms, and team leadership skills. Procedure labs are given throughout the residency to teach he procedural skills that residents get during clinical practice. Clinical practice gives a variety of services that teach skills essential to the practice of Emergency Medicine.…
They used a qualitative exploratory design. This method sought to explore the feelings and emotions of the participants of the study to determine if a role play simulation is beneficial in nursing students’ educational experiences prior to gaining entry into the workforce as a full-time nurse. SAMPLE FOR THE STUDY…
The researchers cited 7 previous projects in the study and those topics included: comparing simulation training with ordinary lectures, comparing simulation training with no training, and comparing training with high fidelity manikins verses low fidelity manikins. The cited articles were published between 2004 and 2015. This was a quantitative, randomized control trial. A total of 81 midwives were recruited and the study consisted of a pretest, an intervention and a posttest.…
The use of simulations for training purposes is not a new concept. According to Fatimah Lateef (2010), “Simulation is a technique for practice and learning that can be applied to many different disciplines and types of trainees.” Using simulations can enhance problem-solving and decision-making skills and communication skills. In 2017, Marina Arshavskiy wrote an article for the eLearning Industry.…
Reflecting upon past experience is key requirement for professionals and academics to ensure better communication, resolve conflicts, and improve future performance. To look back on, group work using Stock-Trak Trading Simulation has allowed participants to gain extreme practical knowledge in trading and investment. This writing is to reflect on my contribution to the simulation activities, critically evaluates our group performance, discuss team work, communication, and possible suggestions to ensure future improvement. It can be argued our team performed well, though organisation skills could have been better. I was tasked to work in group of six using trading simulation for 12weeks, called ‘’Masters Portfolio Game’’.…
Analysis of Paramedic Students Performance under Simulated Stress in Saudi Arabia. Chapter one 1.0 Introduction 1.1 interest and background 1.2 context of study 1.2.1 1.2.2 1.3 problem statement 1.4 significance of study 1.5 objectives of study 1.6 questions of research 1.7 outline I finished my second bachelor degree in Emergency Medical services (EMS) in 2012, I worked in emergency department for a year, and then I got a contract to work as a clinical instructor for Emergency Medical Services bachelor students at one of medical colleges in Saudi Arabia. My interest in teaching and training during my study and professional life, was achieved by this new position, which allows me to convey my knowledge and experiences in simulation using and dealing with…
I use role modeling as the main teaching strategy in the clinical area, and I find it is an effective method of teaching nurse students how to become caring professionals in their future nursing practice. I view learning as a life-long process. As a nurse educator, I also try to stay current in my specialty in order to convey the up-to-date knowledge to my…
1. There are many reasons why I like sports. One of the things I like about sports is teamwork. Why teamwork? Well, many of the sports I was involved in and follow are about teamwork.…
According to Jackson and Mannix (2001) nursing students had the opportunity to integrate theoretical knowledge which develops clinical skills during practical placement hence it is important that they learnt a variety of clinical skills to provide high quality of patient care, clinical skills development occurs in a wide variety of clinical settings. However, the overcrowded of the structure of the clinical setting can hinder the process of learning within the clinical practice. Thus, clinical experience is essential to nursing education and it is the foundation for bridging the gap between theory and practice (Benner et al.,…
The student’s lack of exposure to situational experiences decreases their chances of making appropriate judgments in clinical situations. This leads to mistakes that can have bad outcomes for patients or staff. Tension and negative attitudes may develop that will threaten the student’s development. Furthermore, if students do not identify with the nursing profession, they will leave and cause a greater shortage in the nursing…
