Living in a culture that places much emphasis on education, it's no wonder that teacher tenure is constantly debated. Many advocate all for or all against teacher tenure, but few are fully aware of what teacher tenure, and its effects, has in store for teachers as well as students.
Teacher Tenure is a complicated debate with many facts and viewpoints. However, the most logical arguments are not seen in the all or nothing stances of many professionals. One of the strongest arguments in support of teacher tenure takes the protection and security of teachers into account as well as the stability of students and their learning.

Tenure is the main form of security that teachers are offered. For any employed adult, it is important to have job security. A study conducted out of University of California, Berkeley concluded that performance is hindered in positions that have little job security. Therefore, eliminating tenure will breed more inadequate educators struggling to keep their jobs.
Without security, many, including the LA Times and the Washington Post, predict that interest in the profession will decrease dramatically. Although some argue that the probationary period in many states is shorter than desired, there are other options to keep a specific teacher from receiving tenure. If a teacher does not prove that they are capable and competent in the allotted time before the granting of tenure, a Juul Agreement may be created. This agreement extends the probationary period by an appropriate period of time, usually one year.
Regardless of the benefits provided to teachers, there are also benefits for students. A California study shows that a consistency in teacher and teaching style is proven to allow students to succeed more readily than those who adapted to different
