Typology is the taxonomic classification of characteristics found in buildings and urban places, according to their association with different groups, such as degrees of development, levels of formality, and thought processes. It stands to reason that 2 buildings with the same typology would have more similarities than they would differences. However this is not always the case. More often than not buildings with the same typology can differ greatly. Take for example the Bertram House and the Tubac House. These two buildings are both a house typology however they represent this same typology in varying ways – some ways similar others vastly different. It was more or less just linking to the norms of that period (See Figure 4.1). Guests entertained and food cooked and served on the first floor and sleeping and bathing on the upper level. However in the Tubac house there is a very high thought through process. In that the Tubac house acts as a container for human activity, by sheltering the occupants from the rough exterior. There’s is a large combined common area made up of the dining room, lounge and kitchen which in turn opens to the shaded courtyard and pool deck to capture the views of the mountains. The main bedroom is located down a hallway just after this common area and to the left of the bedroom in an office space with its own hidden courtyard. The swimming pool acts as a means to separate the rough landscape from the house. Function is also accounted for with every human necessity taken care of in its simplest form. To create a space for one to experience the beauty of the landscape, both indoors and outdoors. (See figure 7.2)The Tubac house places emphasis on this by carefully strategically windows along the exterior of the house that frame the views of mountains in the distance and appears almost like a painting.(See Figure 7.3) There are larger external windows which have glimpses of the internal spaces. The bedroom catches glimpses of the sun rising by means of the roof height window while the glass doors to the rear of the kitchen show off the rays of the setting sun into common
