Admittedly, I listened to a lot of Taylor Swift during my freshman and sophomore year because her songs were very catchy. However, the song I probably listened to the most was Taylor Swift’s Blank Space because not only did it frequently play on the radio, but it was also a song on my playlist. But even after listening to the Blank Space so many times, I never would’ve guessed that there was more to a song than just catchy lyrics.
Before doing this assignment, I thought “good” music was strictly based on how catchy a song was. However, after this assignment, I realized that music has the ability to be the vector for a message from the artist. Just like the text that we read in class, lyrics have their own way of telling a story, message, or feeling. Moreover, I thought rhetorical devices were primarily used for essays, books, and speeches. But this assignment showed me that rhetoric is present outside the classroom in the form of pop culture, commercials, and throughout our daily lives.
This assignment caused me to grow as a person because it got me to understand that there is more to our daily lives than just what is seen at the surface. It has showed me that there is more meaning to words on a page and that things in our world are purposely …show more content…
Even though, the essays were different in terms of the writing requirement, this essay was a wake up call to me that I needed to be more involved in current events. While I was writing, I found that my options were limited to the three topics that I wrote down on the homework packet that was given the night before. When I tried to brainstorm for other current events I could’ve used in my essay, I couldn’t come up with anything. A similar writer’s block also happened when the class played the Argument perspectives
