Tau Fraternity: CU Group Analysis

Throughout my time here at CMU, I have been a brother of Phi Kappa Tau Fraternity and one way our group has passed along important dates, information, and other events details has been through our Facebook Group. While searching for a project idea for my BIS 308 class I received a notification in our group named, “Business Chat.” Curious about the notification, I checked it out and noticed that our group’s cover photo had been changed recently. To my surprise, my Chapter’s Vice-President decided that it would be a good idea to change our group’s cover photo to a selfie that our Board of Governors Chairman took and has posted to his own personal Facebook page. Realizing this, I asked myself this: how is this considered professional?

The New Member Process, we teach our new members that the fraternity operates as a business and that we always have each other’s backs regardless of the situation. I quickly realized from conversations I had with my Brothers that this change was made to make fun of our Board of Governors Chairman and, in a way, display some people’s personal feelings of dislike towards him. I believe that this simple change could be the start of solving other internal issues of general brother-to-brother respect and allowing our members to take some of the more simple things in our group more seriously. Please consider changing the cover photo in our group to the design I have suggested and included with this letter. I would also recommend having a conversation with your Vice-President about professionalism and how he conducts himself toward the active chapter in terms of his lack of professionalism to ward brothers in our chapter, brothers at a national level, and especially our professional of our hosting
