Emma Marris presents us with a new way of viewing nature in the first chapter of her book, “Rambunctious Garden”. She explains that the definition of nature depicted in our “glossy magazines” describing a place “somewhere distant, wild and free” is incorrect, as it “blinds us” from the truth (Marris 1). Marris argues that we must adjust this definition to also include the nature found in “the bees whizzing down Fifth Avenue in Manhattan” and “the butterfly bushes that grow alongside the urban river” as well as the nature found in “managed national parks” (Marris 2). She uses experiences gained during her time spent in the forests of Hawaii and in Australia’s Scotia Sanctuary as evidence to support her argument. Marris also makes the point…

Two other students, Cathy Rice and Desiree Serrano, went on the trip but due to scheduling conflicts were unable to present their sections of the presentation. Professor Smith and Dr. Hart were also a part of the group that went to the Dominican Republic during J-term. I learned that they are planning to return not this J-term, but the one after that. Moreover, I learned that there was a lack of money, the need to set up the medicines differently, and other logistical challenges which made me wonder how much more of a positive impact they could have had it they did not run into these difficulties.…

Ancient Mongolia was a nomadic empire that exhibited many attributes of superiority when compared to civilizations and peoples which it conquered. These people saw the Mongols as foreigners with many differences in battle tactics and culture, and, as a result, gave them the name “barbarians”. Although the western world saw the Mongols as barbaric and uncivilized at the time of their reign, they were not barbaric in the sense of the word today, as they demonstrated many signs of civilization and were able to create a substantial and feared empire. One of the focal points of Mongolian society was its stress on and military success and imperialistic goals.…

As H.P Lovecraft one said "The oldest and strongest emotion of mankind is fear and the oldest and stronger kind of fear is the fear is fear of the unknown. " This quote is pretty straight forward. When you do not understand something you tend to fear it, like an omnipotent humanoid man in the sky judging you because you where told so. However, it is told by someone who is eyes are yet to be open. In the beginning there were things that are hard to explain since there was nothing to actually rely on for facts or information or any type of understanding of a language, but as complex minded as humans evolved we started to do something that was remarkable, and that was language.…
