Genetically modified crops
Genetically modified crops are being grown in 23 different countries. They cause crops to grow in a certain way and it is also a very precise way of doing it. For example crops have certain characteristics that are inserted into the plant in order to genetically modify crops. Genetically modified crops have many positive impacts, but also have negative impacts to. GM crops means that there is an increase in yield and also means that there is a reduced chance of the crops being damaged. Genetically modifying crops also makes the crops healthier and they last longer and are more effective in particular conditions. Genes that have been inserted into the crops through genetically modifying them will also cause people to have negative attitudes towards them as people will disagree with eating these certain genes. They may chose to eat certain foods which are organic instead. The production of GM crops also makes people have negative views on them. Some people believe it is ethically wrong and chose not to purchase foods made with them. They think that they might cause allergic reactions because they could be allergic to the genes that are inserted into the crop. Other negative opinions on GM crops are that they could cause disease due to the bacteria being spread from GM crops to ones that weren’t supposed to be genetically modified. Religion is also a problem with GM crops. For example, Islam do not eat pork and some crops may have been inserted with pig genes and this would be against their religion.
