Mythology not only originates from ancient cultures, but it also persists through media and is often times reborn into new myths. Storytellers, like The Walt Disney Company or even grandparents, continue to retell myths in their own respective ways tailoring various themes and characters to their audience. Similar to ancient myths, modern mythology is created to invoke feelings of admiration, joy, sorrow, horror, and thrill. Modern tales present many perspectives of the human condition. A feral child, also known as a wild child, describes when a human child has lived apart from human society for so long that he or she has little to no experience of human care, behavior, or human language. Burroughs develops a hybrid character that displays both human and animal traits. The novel is about a white male, who is the son of an English noble couple, orphaned by apes in the African jungle. As Tarzan matures, he observes that he undergoes both internal and external conflicts when he encounters various challenges that lead him to question his natural instinct: species versus environment. Odysseus is returning home to Ithaca from war. He recollects his journey to the Phaeacians and describes his travels through the land of cyclopes. While on the mainland of the land of cyclopes, Odysseus and his men stumble across a cavern filled with sheep and crates of milk and cheese. His men encourage and goad Odysseus to quickly take their discoveries back to the ship, but out of curiosity, Odysseus decides to remain and wait for the resident of this cave to return. To his surprise, it was the Polyphemus, son of Poseidon and one of the cyclopes on this land. After attempting to manipulate Polyphemus in presenting gifts to his guests, Odysseus and his men, Polyphemus becomes hostile to them. This results in consuming them and imprisons Odysseus and his men in the cave for later
