Often enough, schools are ruined due to people against educating women. “50 percent of schools do not have buildings and other necessities, and a dearth of textbooks, teaching materials and equipped laboratories, along with the large number of school closures or relocations directly affects the quality of education”(UNWomen,2013,p.1). After two year, insurgents have now made it their mission to go after schools for girls in Afghanistan. This is one reason almost half of the children in Afghanistan still have not received an education and many schools are without proper school buildings. “Add to that the increasing violence that has forced several schools to close altogether and work on some others to stop. Afghan officials say the violence has prevented at least 200,000 children from attending school”(Honawar,2007,p.17). Before the terrorist attack of September 11th, the world was really aware of conditions in Afghanistan. Although at war, The U.S. brought hope to these people. For the last decade, Americans have created fundraisers and organizations in order to raise awareness of the problems in the middle east. While improvements have been made, it’s not enough. Today, there are still plenty of girls going without an education. Women still are without basic rights.Along with that, violence against women is still occurring. Female government officials have been killed, female teachers have been at an all time low and illiteracy is immense. Afghanistan is just at a start of a social and economical change.
