The literal meaning of divorce is ‘dismission’ whereas, under the Islamic law it means ‘rejection’. Divorce is the dissolution of the marriage bond between the husband and the wife.

Divorce is the most disliked act amongst all the halal acts before Allah. In islam, the husband has the right to divorce, and the wife can demand divorce from her husband. If the husband wishes to divorce his wife, he should pronounce the talaq once when the wife is in the state of purity, and should abstain from involving in sexual relationship with her if there’s no intention of reconciliation. It is more proper form of talaq. There should be a single pronouncement of talaq while the wife is in the state of purity. Talaq e Ahsan can be revoked at any time during the period of iddat. In case the marriage has not been consummated, a talaq in Ahsan form may be pronounced if the wife is in her menstruation.
Conditions of Talaq e Ahsan
1. Divorce should be pronounced by the husband in a single sentence.
2. The wife should be in the state of purity at the time of talaq.
3. Husband should refrain from involving in sexual relationship with the wife.
b) Talaq e Hassan: Hassan means ‘good’. Here, there are three pronouncements of talaq. After the third pronouncement, the talaq becomes effective and it is irrevocable. Conditions of Talaq e Hassan
1. There must be three successive pronouncements of divorce.
2. In case of menstruating wife, the first pronouncement should be made in the first tuhr; when she is in the state of purity.
3. In case of non-menstruating wife, the pronouncement should be made during the successive interval of 30 days.
