The Syrian Ozzi Living in such a divorce world nowadays opens the door to experience enormous cultural things. One of these things is food, and nothing is better than a homemade Mediterranean dish. The Syrian Ozzi is a damascene dish, that has been cooked for a long time. The dish is a combination of sweetness and saltiness. The dish is made with rice, beef or goat meet, peas, fried nuts (usually almonds and pine seeds), puff pastry dough and Greek yogurt. The meat is boiled with Arabic herbs. After the meat is fully cooked, the rice is cooked using the water the meat is cooked with. After that the nuts should be fried with olive oil until they golden and put to the side. After everything is done, the meat is supposed to be cut in cubes and mixed with the rice, peas, and nuts. After that the dough should be prepared and get filled with a decent amount of rice and meat. Afterward the Ozzis are put in the oven until the dough is cooked and golden. When everything is done, the dish served is served with Greek yogurt. The Syrian Ozzi is a prestigious dish, usually its served at wedding, funerals, and sometimes baby wash parties. I mainly love this dish not because what it’s made of or how it tastes like, actually because the made it for me for the first time. The person that made every single bite of this meal is a new experience, a huge portion of love toward her and an enormous amount of respect. My mom made this dish my favorite. As I grew up this dish was added to every single beautiful event in my life. This dish means so much to me, when I travelled the first time away from my family.
