According to Source 2 “Snow Ecology,” thriving in the harsh, frosty conditions is quite a challenge for plants. To explain, plants cannot escape the winter and seek shelter or a safer environment, rather they must remain where they are rooted and persevere through the rough winter conditions. Another challenge is a plant’s ability to take in water during the winter. During the winter, most of the water is frozen and unfortunately, plants can’t take up the ice.
