Synovus Financial Corporation has enjoyed over 100 years of successful business as they were awarded one of the best organizations to work for in America. Therefore, Synovus leadership approach to achieving and shaping the organizational culture was due to an implementation of value based leadership, built on integrity, service. and putting people first (Hess, & Cameron, 2006). Integrity is the foremost value that has permeated Synovus leadership. The qualities required for leaders to practice integrity is to be courageous and humble, as they cultivate an environment of learning and growth, to implement change as they authentically lead, while reaping the benefits of trust, respect and confidence of the workforce. Therefore, the values of integrity, service, and people first was demonstrated as each CEO was determined to follow Christ’s example of being a servant leader, according to Mark 10:45 “For the Son of Man came not to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many” (ESV). Philippians 2:4 underscores the value of servant leadership stating, “Let each of you look not only to his own interest, but also for the interest of others” (NKJV). The Synovus leadership exercised stewardship over the workforce as 1 Peter 4:10 states “as each has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God” (NKJV) and it these biblical principles in scriptures that are used in current business literature found in value based leadership (Frost, 2014) and Greenleaf research on servant leadership (Leadership & Organization Development Journal,
