Symptoms Of Cystic Fibrosis

Cystic fibrosis is a genetic disorder that affects many organs and impairs the lung function. A blocked chloride transport in the cell membranes creates mucous that has little water content and becomes thick. The thick, sticky mucous causes problems in the lung, pancreas, liver, salivary glands, and testes. It is an autosomal recessive trait and the cystic fibrosis gene can be located in chromosome seven. A symptom of cystic fibrosis is very salty-tasting skin and the reason is, is when a person who has cystic fibrosis has very high levels of chloride in their sweat than what a normal person would have. Another symptom is coughing with phlegm and this is caused by the mucus that is in the lungs. Frequent lung infections, bronchitis, wheezing …show more content…
Another is Burkholderia cepacia which is a serious bacterial infection for patients with cystic fibrosis and is caused by a cystic fibrosis patient near another patient with cystic fibrosis with casual contact. The infection lives in respiratory tracts and becomes resistant to antibiotic therapy really quickly Cystic fibrosis can be detected before the symptoms show and one way to do that is by a sweat test which is used to text the chloride level in a person's sweat or a blood test to see if they have inherited the disease through their parents. Another way is a blood test that could test for the possibility of the person having cystic fibrosis. There is no cure for cystic fibrosis but there are treatments that can help ease the symptoms such as a well balanced diet including moderate protein and high calorie intake, vitamin supplements, chest physiotherapy at least two times a day. Chest physiotherapy is an airway clearance technique to drain the lungs and may include vibration, percussion, deep breathing, and huffing or coughing. Oxygen would help with respiratory problems and being able to help the person breathe better than they did before they started this

Introduction The genetic autosomal recessive disorder known as Cystic Fibrosis (CF) effects on average 1 of 28 Caucasians. The average age for patients to be diagnosed with this genetic disorder is around 2 weeks and 2 years old, there are some cases where they are find out sooner and others when they are adults. CF affect the patient’s chloride channels which causes the mucus in their lungs to thicken and pool. It can also affect the pancreas by blocking it up and not allowing it to produce digestive enzymes.…

The structure of an enzyme is important because if the structure of the protein is denatured, the protein can not function properly either. Being denatured can be caused by many things but changing the pH or temperature are the main ways to make a protein not to function properly. Any little change in the sequence from protein folding can cause dramatic consequences that might lead to disease or sickness. Cystic Fibrosis is a common disease that affects the whole body, the main and most serious symptom is difficulty with breathing caused by frequent lung infections, Cystic Fibrosis is caused by the dysfunctional gene of the protein CFTR, cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator.…

My inspiration to do my project on Cystic Fibrosis dated back on Nov, 2016 when I participated Student Success Leadership Conference at Virginia Beach. One of the motivational speaker at the end of her speech played music video by One Republic “I lived”. In that video clip a teenager with cystic fibrosis was shown and explained how it feel living with cystic Fibrosis. The boy explained that having cystic fibrosis caused him to have breathing problem and he said that he felt he is breathing with a straw. As he continued explaining he said the more he tried to breathe the more he has pain.…

Genetic Disorder Paper Cystic fibrosis is a progressive, genetic disease that causes persistent lung infections and limits the ability to breathe over time (cystic fibrosis foundation). It is a decease in the secretory glands, the glands that make mucus and sweat (medicine). It causes the cells in those parts to not function correctly and when needed to produce fluids, produce thick, sticky mucus in the lungs, pancreas and other organs (cystic fibrosis foundation). It builds up and blocks tubes and airways making it harder to breathe.…

Cystic Fibrosis is an inherited disease of the secretory glands, glands that make up mucus and sweat. It is also known as mucoviscidosis, that affects mostly the lungs but also the pancreas, liver, kidneys and intestine. Long term issues include difficulty breathing and coughing up sputum as a result of frequent lung infections. A defect in the CFTR gene causes cystic fibrosis. This gene makes a protein that controls the movement of salt and water in and out of your body's cells.…

Cystic Fibrosis was first discovered in 1938 by Dr. Dorothy Hansine Andersen, she described the characteristics of the disease of the pancreas, lungs, and other organs, but this was not much information to go on from. She later discovered more information on Cystic Fibrosis in 1949, she found out it was caused by a recessive mutant gene. Cystic Fibrosis(CF) is a thick and sticky mucus that clogs the airways, making it hard to breathe and causing damage. It is caused by a defect in a gene that changes a specific protein that regulates the movement of salt in and out of cells at birth. In order for someone to be diagnosed with CF, the child would need to get one copy of the gene from both parents.…

Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a genetic and inherited disease that is life threatening. CF effects not only one’s breathing with continuous lung infections by lining the lungs with mucus, but can also trap infections by blocking the airway. The buildup of mucus effects the digestive system by preventing prevents the digestive enzyme process from breaking down food and obtaining nutrients. An infant that has been diagnosed with CF has inherited two copies of the defective CF gene, a copy from each parent as a carrier. When screening infants for cystic fibrosis, the most effective way to prevent serious lifelong complications is to diagnosis the disease early.…

Cystic Fibrosis is the most common fatal autosomal genetically inherited disease with high morbidity within the Caucasian population. This disease is due to the defective or non-existent CFTR (Cystic Fibrosis Transmembrane conductance Regulator) proteins. The lack of the CFTR proteins results in the buildup of a thick, sticky mucus within the lungs, which in turn makes it harder for the patient to breath. The patient experiences altered epithelial ion transport. This altered epithelial ion transport causes decreased hydration of the epithelial surfaces in the gut, kidney, pancreas, and airways.…

CF also stops the body for producing pancreatic enzymes which are necessary for breaking down and absorbing food. There are various symptoms of CF including, salty skin, persistent coughing often with phlegm, lung infections, shortness of breath, poor growth and weight gain and heavy stools or difficulty with bowel movements (Cystic Fibrosis Ireland, 2014).
