They end off with explaining that Zero tolerance is a policy that looks to solve the potential problems of crime and that politicians are using this method in way to control crime. The finish with saying though politicians may believe that this approach may be the most beneficial for the war on crime but the authors suggest it may not be the most beneficial and long term social and economic benefit to solve the issues of crime and control. Tim Newburn and Trevor Jones’s “Symbolizing crime control” examine and analyzes the same topic as Martinez’s article on “Zero tolerance policing" as both articles looks at the theoretical practice of zero tolerance policing. In terms of the approach to the topic, both articles take similar approaches in explaining the practice of Zero tolerance on how it is applied to our policing strategies today. Martinez though only briefly explains what the practices are in using Zero tolerance in institutional settings, as she briefly touches on using it to eliminate sexual harassment, removing of guns and drugs. Newburn and Jones go into more depth as they expand on the thoughts of violence against women and how the policy is applied to stopping harassment in the workplace and such strategies to prevent women victimization. They also go into depth about how Zero tolerance was introduced into policing and how it was later used in policing strategies. The Newburn and Jones articles does a better job in explaining the practices used by Zero tolerance then they Martinez article does as martinez only goes into a brief explanation and doesn't give the readers enough
