A symbol that continuously appears is Haven’s name. When you think of haven you think of a safe place, a place where you are accepted as you are. On page 32 it states, “But I happen to know beneath all the skulls and spikes, and death-rocker makeup is a girl who wants to be seen, heard, loved, and paid attention to, something her her earlier incarnations failed to do.” The author portrays Haven as a girl who simply is misunderstood just wanting to be heard, loved, and accepted for who she is, but is not so she goes to the extremes to get attention. Thus, the symbol haven represents everything that Haven is searching for, her motivation. Another recurring symbol is green, the character Drina is known for her green attire and eyes, however Drina is not your typical young lady roaming around a small town, she is Damen’s ex-wife. The color green can mean a many number of things, however for Drina green signifies envy and immortality. Drina is driven by her envy of Ever, the fact that she is being replaced by Ever as Damen’s soulmate makes her boil over in anger. There happens to be one in front of Damen’s house, and on the day of the crash “... the front bumper clutching the pine tree in a lethal hold…”, a pine tree is a type of evergreen tree, and you later learn that Damen was there on the day of the crash, he was the one who revived Ever. So in both cases it represents Damen’s presence and his immortality. Finally the most significant recurring symbol is the white rose buds and tulips, throughout the book Damen continuously give Ever tulips and Stacia white rose buds, which gets the readers predicting the meaning. Later, at the end of the book Ever realizes that flowers have meaning and investigates further only to discover that tulips mean undying love and white rose buds means the heart that knows no love and the heart ignorant of love, which shows Damen’s
