Consumers have a variety of options about what type of drink they prefer. Sweetened drinks are available in many different flavors. Some examples are soft drinks such as Coke, Sprite, and Root Beer. Other examples are sports drinks such as Gatorade and Powerade. Other drinks taste just as good such as all the different flavor coffees and teas. Depending on the person, everyone has their own favorite drink that they prefer. There are people that consume sweet drinks on a daily basis. Even though water is just as easily available, some people prefer the sweet taste of their favorite drink. The effects that sugar has on the body, from drinking sweetened drinks bad. When young children get used to drinking sweet drinks, they grow into teenagers and adults with this same habit. The consumption on sugar on the body is not healthy. Sugar has been linked to many types of health issues. For the young body, sugar consumption can lead to obesity and weight gain. It can also lead to getting diabetes and heart disease. These health issues are serious and can lead to death. In a survey conducted with teenagers on Saipan, 19 of the 20 teenagers said that they consume a sweetened drink everyday. Staying healthy starts when we are young. If people want to live a healthier life and live longer, they should consume more water than sweetened drinks. People should first know how many sweet drinks they have each day and reduce their intake by replacing it with water. Second, people should be aware of the many damages that this does to the body.
