The use of foreshadowing is very prominent in the short story. Harvey does a great job at really keeping people off of their seat as they read his story. Everything in the end was going rather well at first, our main character James was just waiting for the day to pass specifically one hour in order to be able to safely go back home and avoid the danger of potentially dying if that was even going to happen. Mr. Atkinson’s wife had already gone to bed and Atkinson was too busy sharpening his tools to even bother with James so everything seemed to be going rather well until James started getting affected by the heat and claimed that the heat heat was enough to make a person go mad which could be implied that Mr. Atkinson could potentially go mad and actually end up killing James in the process therefore going through with what destiny had in stored with
