It was a normal day on the Carver Farm in Missouri in 1864. Moses Carver was plowing his field with Giles his slave along side him. Susan Carver was in their home washing the dishes and preparing for supper with Mary Giles wife alongside her with her two kids setting the table and little baby George asleep in his cradle. After dinner, when everyone was fed, they went out in the fields again to do more chores. All of a sudden men on horses came to their farm and snatched up Mary, George and his sister. The men took them out of state and sold them to slave owners. Only baby George was brought back to Missouri by an agent that worked for Moses Carver.

Many of these new experiments focused on new and developed crops such as, peanuts, sweet potatoes, soybeans and pecans. In 1920, Carver gave a speech in front of the Peanut Growers Association, focusing of the wide potential of peanuts. The following year, he testified in front of congress in support of Tariff on imported peanuts. With the help of Carver's testimony, Congress passed the tariff in 1922. Carver used his celebrity and scientific ego to be influential for the remainder of his life. He wrote a newspaper column and toured the nation's, talking about the importance of agriculture, the achievements of Tuskegee and the possibility of racial harmony.

On January 5, 1943, at the age of 78 George Washington Carver died from falling down a flight of stairs at his home. He was buried by Booker T. Washington on the Tuskegee grounds and his epitaph states: “He could have added fortune to fame, but caring for neither, he found happiness and honor in being helpful to the world.”

I believe that George Washington Carver brought knowledge and better ideas of agriculture to America. He is one of the many people that shows you don't have to be whatever everyone else expects you to be to be
