The survival kit is a challenge that people can participate. The rules of this activity are that you are given precisely 50 euros to spend on good or services to bring with you on a deserted island for a day’s stay; and that’s all you’re allowed to bring, with the clothes on your back. Then, you have to do the same challenge once again, however instead of staying for just a day, it will be a week’s stay. The budget is still 50 euros, the person has to decide what is necessary to bring.

Now there is a decision to be made on which store to use for this challenge; that will be Albert Heijn and Jumbo. The reason for this is that I have been to Albert Heijn multiple times and they offer good quality products, plus they offer a wide range of items, from food products to household items. It’s hard sometimes to really identify which product is a need and which one is a want; basically, goods need to be sufficient to satisfy your needs which will help you survive. For example, food: some foods (e.g. water or bread) can be classified as a need which will help you not starve, while others could be a want (e.g. chocolate or jam) which is bought just for the craving of that product. However, in this challenge I would want to buy more goods that are needs than to buy wants; but in the real world some needs are scarce for a great population of the world, at the same time everyone wishes to have all these goods and service that won’t necessarily help them to
