He was a big dog not ready for the Yukon he had to survive through the harshest of winters, he wasn’t fit to survive. In the novel The Call of the Wild by Jack London, One of the main characters is a saint bernard scotch-shepherd called Buck, he is a domesticated, loyal companion that becomes a wild wolf-dog. London uses the Yukon Gold Rush as the setting in the adventure story that brings man and dog closer than pulls than apart in the Yukon while trying to be fit to survive. The theme of the survival of the fittest is expressed many times by Buck and the other characters through the story.

After Buck had been working for ever he was so tired that he could barely even get up but he still worked for his masters. “ There was no power of recuperation left, no reserve strength to call upon. It had been all used, the last least bit of it. Every muscle, every fiber, every cell, was tired, dead tired” (London 55-56). This quote has an example of survival of the fittest because he was fighting to work not to disobey his masters even when he was really tired and worn out from running and walking forever.
Through the novel The Call of the Wild Buck showed that he was fit to survive in the Yukon in many ways like fighting other dogs, stealing food from the masters, and even surviving through the toughest times that he ever experienced. In the end he became one of the wild animals so he was more fit to survive than any other animal in the Yukon.I would recommend this novel because it has a lot of suspense and action. The author Jack London uses a unique type of writing because he really explains the novel and all of the events that happen like Buck getting into the fight with the wild
