Surimi is a Japanese word that literally means “ground meat”, which refers to a pasta made from fish or other meat. Some of the fish that are typically used to make surimi include Alaska pollock, Pacific whiting, milkfish, tilapia and shark. In detail, surimi seafood is seafood made from inexpensive fish which is ground up, flavored, textured, colored and shaped to resemble more expensive seafood such as crab, scallop, lobster, abalone or calamari. In addition, many east Asian countries traditionally make and consume surimi and many Asian foods use surimi as their primary ingredients. For example, surimi is made in to fish balls and thick soup in China. As of 2015 the world’s largest surimi producers are the United States, Japan and Thailand. …show more content…
Generally, surimi is very useful to make various seafood and ingredients used into the seafood dish. Also, because the cost of surimi is lower compared with other raw food materials, it is able to reduce the cost of food and dish. This is a quick-service seafood restaurant that locates at Massachusetts. In the conversation, the manager mentioned surimi is useful to the fast-food foodservice operation. It could make many different seafood meats for the hamburger, depending what type of surimi is, such as crab, fish, shrimp. Meanwhile, it could make various appetizers or sides, such as sausage, meatball, carb stick. Since the low cost of surimi compared with fresh seafood meat after processing, the efficient using of it could also lower the cost, especially for the fast food restaurants.
