Supervision and Management identifies the problems in the police department; if a police department is not following proper guidelines, they must get new management. The public have a great deal of respect for officers especially those who go out of their way to help. However, due to recent incidents such as Michael Brown, Eric Garner and other cases- the media has portrayed police as killers and those who discriminate certain groups of people. We need to understand that every officer has their own bias/discretion. While some officers are aggressive, others are nice. It’s critical for management and supervisors to do performance evaluations especially to those who have not changed. Being a supervisor is not the ideal job for anyone; people view you as bossy, sometimes mean, etc. If officers are led and part of a healthy management, this will improve their behaviors and discretion.
