I chose to write about the link it up section that spoke about the price elasticity of Super Bowl tickets. The overall message that this article was trying to convey to the audience was the difference between elastic items and inelastic items using the example of Super Bowl tickets.

The article went in depth on the reasons why the super bowl prices are inelastic items. In summary, the Super Bowl tickets will sell at almost any price because it is one of the largest events of the year. They are held in marquee locations such as new york that have millions of people who are willing and able to spend large amounts of money in order to gain inside access to this event.

Rhetorical Analysis of a Public Document: “Buy Experiences, Not Things” The Atlantic monthly published an article called, “Buy Experiences, Not Things,” written by James Hamblin (the senior editor at The Atlantic). The Atlantic monthly is a magazine known for publishing literary and cultural articles and review with a modern worldview. The article, “Buy Experiences, Not Things,” is more of a cultural article because it refers to the ideas and social behaviors of society. The authors purpose for publishing the article, “Buy Experiences, Not Things,” was to convey the reader to realize the significance of experiences and the insignificance of material goods through the use of ethos, logos, and pathos.…

When comparing two arguments, it is important to actively recognize the forms of rhetoric used in order to best understand the opposing viewpoints. Readers might think one rhetorical strategy is more effective than another. An effective use of rhetoric could benefit the author by persuading the reader to agree with the argument made. I evaluated two separate essays written on the relationship between economics and college sports. In Paul Marx’s essay, “Athlete’s New Day,” he argues the point that college athletes should be paid for their time and effort devoted to the sport.…

The first item is a Five Dollar Iron, described by the origins of how it was created and why the item was so cheaply sold. With much discussion, the Five Dollar Iron was described with a combination of both objective and subjective descriptions. For the objective description, John D Freyer gives a brief history lesson, the iron is a cheap yet affordable object that was found new within his local Kmart. Subjectively, John then goes on to explain as to why the item is so cheap, through the minimal pay of workers in other countries to wanting to endorse an American company, even expanding to the lack of coverage that CBS stories go into of Chinese factories: “I'd rather buy one used so I don't have to support Westinghouse…”. This makes it subjective,…

In my analysis, I will focus on two different essays; Be Specific by Natalie Goldberg and Killing the Written Word by Snippets by Naomi S. Baron. The list of things that Goldberg uses in her writing has a purpose to show the reader the many names objects have, and to give the reader a better understanding why it is so important to call things by their real names. Baron argues that when students rely on sound bites instead of full articles and books in their research, they lose the ability to analyze. In “Be specific” Goldberg writes about how knowing the names of people and things are important. So, people are more aware of their surroundings and feel more connected to the people around them.…
