Sunspots And Climate Change

In the article, Tomasz Nowakowski explains how the decrease of solar activity can impact Earth through a colder climate. For instance, a Lomonosov Moscow State University researcher explains that if the theory of a colder climate is the effect the solar activity is true, then it will lead to a significant temperature reduction. However, the temperature reduction will not be as intense as the Maunder Minimum because our future minimum will last about 30 years. In addition, the sun currently has the lowest sunspot activity since 1750. However, the current decrease in sunspots can possibly show "us it's violent nature in the coming years." Moreover, the rearrangement of the sun's magnetic field that sustain high speed streams can cause powerful geomagnetic storms on Earth and can change to a "radiation environment in the inner magnetosphere." …show more content…
I also encountered it interesting that the high speed streams can have the ability to cause strong geomagnetic storms on Earth. I considered the high speed streams interesting because it is informative and it gives concrete evidence to support the author's claim. Furthermore, I found it interesting that the author's claim was that a decrease in solar activity can cause a cooler climate. However, why is it getting hotter in the summer, if the solar activity can possibly cause the environment's temperature to become

Everyone loves the warm weather of the summer. The sun beating down, heating up the once icy ground after a winter with scarcely any reprieve from it’s brutal conditions. Many even travel throughout the colder months to places that experience summer virtually all year long. But at what point does something so wonderful become dangerous? With the temperature at such a prime point for an extended period of time, catastrophic events will begin to occur.…

In the article Running wild by Stephen Battersby, the author mostly discusses the big picture of global warming and its weather patterns on Earth. Further discussion includes how scientist are testing climate models to improve weather predictions. Battersby opening paragraph describes the “summer in March” a 10-day event happening in March of 2012 in North America. Rainstorms brought floods to Pakistan in 2010 and 2011. There was extremes of cold and heat as well.…

In the online webpage “Facts: Effects”, Holly Shaftel confirms “Effects that scientists had predicted in the past would result from global climate change are now occurring: loss of sea ice, accelerated sea level rise and longer, more intense heat waves” by elaborating the effects of excessive release of greenhouse gases, resulting from various human activities, towards the environment, thus affecting the current ecosystem(Facts:Effects). She supports this claim by first stating that, according to various data collected on greenhouse gas concentration by the intergovernmental panel on climate change(IPCC), “Summer temperatures are projected to continue rising, and a reduction of soil moisture…” and thus result in severe droughts(Facts:Effects).…

The results demonstrate to us that there is a greater area across which the energy of the sun spans during our wintertime (as shown by the Winter ME model), which allows less energy per unit area to be distributed. This leads to the cooler times of the year, when snow is able to fall and we have to dress more heavily for the weather. They also demonstrate that during the Summer months, the Earth’s northern hemisphere is tilted towards the sun, and this tilt provides a smaller area across which the same energy can be spread. Lastly, it allows us to infer that because the Equator is the warmest of the three models, it is always able to receive the greatest amount of energy from the sun during the year, and is therefore subject to an annually hotter…

With such a controversial topic, heated opinions can always arise, despite the issue at hand. While both articles agree that global warming is occurring rapidly, the writing pieces, however, take and explain different viewpoints. The first article describes global warming as a result from many manmade activities (Lambrick, M. & Renneboog, R., 2017, Para. 2). The second article explains climate change as a result from the solar system and natural occurring gases that trap carbon dioxide in the atmosphere (Renneboog, R., 2017, Para. 1-2).…

The medium sized ‘M-class’ (Mid-sized solar flare) solar flares can release enough charge particles to strip electrons from the earth’s ionosphere blocking communications signals to and from the satellites. The ionosphere also begins bouncing off the particles and waves back into space colliding with the satellites communication waves and momentarily interrupting signals between the satellites and earth. When a large ‘X-class’ (largest of all solar flares) solar flare occurs it carries enough charged particles, x-rays and magnetized plasma that although is harmless to humans due to the atmosphere protection, can have an electromagnetic pulse effect (EMP) on the Earth causing all electronically powered sources to be forcedly shut off for anywhere up to a few years (in the event of a severely large solar flare) which would stop almost all industries from continuing work and cause chaos on as no electrical appliances in which we thrive off would…

The author claims global warming is causing extreme temperatures and this in turn has caused thousands of people to die since the year 1900. Climate change has raised humidity levels and humidity can prevent the body’s natural cooling method from happening. Sumner does not go into detail about how high temperatures can stop people from sweating, but by the 2060s, he predicts that 250 million people across the globe will face deadly levels of heat and humidity. On the flip side, fatal cold fronts will become less common and cause less casualties. Climate change redirects Arctic winds which means areas that are normally hit with this chilly weather are…

Imagine having summer all year long, being under the sweltering heat, breathing the stuffy, sick air, and conditions worsening as the day goes by. These harsh conditions are increased by air pollution and climate change through cars and factories; man-made inventions. These innovative technologies have been necessary in order to have a functioning and developing society and economy. However, the belief that humans are the sole cause of climate change is refuted by scientists, advocating that the change in the Earth’s climate is a natural cause. Earth formed over about 4.5 billion years ago, and it has changed ever since then.…
