The use of prenatal ultrasound has grown rapidly over the last two decades. It is commonly believed that the increased use of prenatal ultrasound is associated with and may be the reason for the increased number of autism spectrum disorder diagnoses over the same time period. The purpose of this paper was to determine if there is a link between prenatal ultrasound exposure and autism. A comprehensive review of the literature was performed. The results concluded that although previous studies linked autistic like traits to subjects that were exposed to ultrasound, more recent studies were not able to substantiate these claims.
