Consequences include alcohol abuse disorders, academic problems, unsafe sex, sexual abuse, assault, injury, and death. “Each year, an estimated 1,825 college students die from alcohol related injuries and vehicle crashes” (Consequences). About one quarter of college students have reported suffering grades due to alcohol consumption causing them to fall behind, fail exams, or skip class. Also, about “400,000 students each year have unprotected sex, and more than 100,000 of those individuals report having been too intoxicated to know if they consented to sex” (Consequences). Do not go out drinking by yourself hoping to meet some new people, that is a disaster waiting to happen. A prevention method that could be used is creating a set of rules that would help limit the susceptibility of students to be put in dangerous situations. For example, stay within your alcohol tolerance level to reduce the risks of the consequences listed above. Also, always bring a friend and be aware of your surroundings so you can recognize a dangerous situation if one appears.
