Furthering your education will lead to a successful future. College graduates earn more than twice as much as high school graduates. Students with a college degree are more likely to earn good paying jobs. An individual with a high school diploma can receive a good job, but a college graduate can receive a career with benefits for a lifetime, including benefits for a family. Furthering an education can expand and heighten your skills. Educated people tend to make more suitable decisions, which can lead to a better society and less crime rates. An education allows us to give on our knowledge to others. People are not allowed to grow because they need to pay for a higher education. Some high school graduates cannot further their education because of the barrier in front of them. This barrier is the price of college and they cannot afford it. These people that are not given the chance to further their education could have been the greatest surgeon alive, or very successful to benefit the economy and our country. Many others opposed his plan because they believe it will turn out to be like a public high school, where some students take their education for granted and are forced to go to school. Obama’s plan, “American College Proposal”, has requirements for students that want a free education. “Requirement for Students: Must be enrolled at least half time; Must maintain a 2.5 GPA; Must make steady progress towards completion; Can not have a AGI (adjusted gross income) above $200,00” (Dash). If a student cannot meet the requirements, they must pay for their education. A student must show that their education is important and they must show that they are willing to work for it. The requirements are not just limited to the students. There are also requirements for the colleges that would be able to offer free tuition and also requirements for the state. Many people are supporting this plan, as well as people are against it. People are worried about the amount of money that is needed to implement Obama’s plan and the debt this country can get into. “Under the proposal, the federal government would cover 75 percent of the average cost of community college. The plan calls for states to pick up the remaining quarter of the tab…” (Mason).
