“Miss Caroline told me to tell my father not to teach me anymore, it would interfere with my reading”.
Scout was confused as to why Miss Caroline assumed that Atticus was teaching her when in fact he wasn’t. She was also confused because she didn’t understand why her teacher didn’t want to to learn even more. Even more conflict was started when Scout told Miss Caroline about the Cunninghams not taking handouts. Scout of course was confused why Miss Caroline got mad and hit her hands with a ruler and sent her to the corner. When everyone was laughing Miss Caroline threatened them with the same fate but that only made them laugh more, it wasn’t until Miss Blount yelled at them that they finally quieted down. As Scout was exiting the classroom

She was talking about how the teacher said that Atticus has taught her to write wrong. She said she didn’t want to go to school. Then they started talking about Walter Cunningham and how he is poor. “You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view - until you climb into his skin and walk around in it,” said Atticus (Lee pg30). I think that this kind of taught Scout that she can’t just judge people.…

the second character that had a big influence on Scout was Atticus. He wasn't the first person to help Scout's coming of age, but he was nonarguably the biggest influence on Scout. During the Tom Robinson case, Atticus gave Scout a trick to tell if the witness was telling the truth or lying. On page 257, he said,"That one way to tell if the person is lying or telling the truth is to listen instead of watch". This quote is significant because he teaches Scout how to be a good listener in various situations.…

To Kill a Mockingbird is a great book showing how people can grow together. We have Scout and Jem growing up together in an innocent childhood growing into adulthood. We have Tom Robinson, an African American man who, is going to court with Atticus Finch (scouts father) and is trying to defend Tom against the harming white community. Tom Robinson was accused of rape of a white female Mayella. The raping of a white woman by a black man is similar to The Scottsboro Trial in 1933, where 9 black men were falsely accused of raping two white women.…

One pattern seen in Scout 's initial behavior is how fighting is her solution to all the conflicts she encounters; she pursues Walter Cunningham Jr. after getting in trouble on the first day of school, she has one altercation with Dill when he did not pay attention to her, and nearly starts a fight with a classmate named Cecil Jacobs. Her lack of self-discipline as well as her short tempered nature show that Scout utilizes fighting as an easy solution for all of her conflicts. Unlike most girls, Scout is a tomboy and she is seen as an aberration by Aunt Alexandra. In Chapter 9, Scout states, “I suggested that one could be a ray of sunshine in pants just as well, but Aunty said that one had to behave like a sunbeam, that I was born good but had grown progressively worse every year.” (Lee 108).…
