In Methland, Nick Reding vindicates that small towns in the United States are not what they seem to be. He suggests many people throughout the nation see small towns as quaint little towns with diligent people living and working in them. As Reding articulates throughout the book that this idea of quiet, hard-working small towns is all just ignorance and imagination, especially for towns like Oelwein, Iowa. This town when you first examine it seems to have a nasty meth problem that seems almost incurable due to the lack of federal funding from the government and state. Would you falsely accuse someone you've known for years of something that they didn't do, even if their own life was on the line? In "The Crucible" a play by Arthur Miller, 19 people were killed because of this. These 19 people were all accused of witchcraft in the play which is something that is not even real. The town of Salem in 1692 fell into a mass hysteria where fear in the town overpowered logic and many bad things came from it. This type of fear has happened throughout history and has always ended up badly.…

During the McCarthy Era and The Salem Witch Trials, mob hysteria was present due to the fear of communism spreading to the United States and sickness occurring in Salem due to what they assumed was witches. Setting is the when, where, an action in fiction takes place. While the setting in a story may seem like a simple part of the story, it can in fact have a huge impact on what is going on in the narrative. In “A Pair of Ticket” the setting plays an effective role because it shows the progression of June May learning about herself, where her family comes from and also relates to the overall theme of the story.…

Unfortunately the sad reality is that events that seem so dark and out of control from the past do occur again in the future like in the 1950s. During that time Joseph McCarthy: a United States Senator, accused many people into being communists which similarly happened in the Salem Witch Trials that occurred in the 1690s where many innocent souls were accused of witchcraft. Now one of the unfortunate people McCarthy accused was playwright author called Arthur Miller who was famous for writing The Crucible. Millers purpose for writing The Crucible was to show the similarities of the Salem Witch Trials…
