I demonstrate the use and successfully prioritize health assessments by assessing my resident’s respiratory and cardiac function first due to his current diagnoses. Based off my findings, I decide if I need to report something or not. So far my resident’s vital signs and assessments have been within his normal range. His respirations run high, but I make sure to discuss with the med. nurse when I am uncomfortable with the respiration numbers. So far I have been informed, my resident respirations run around 24-26 per a minute. I have not been able to administer medications yet, however, I am scheduled to administer medications next Monday, October 19th. I will obtain the subjective data by asking the patient his/her chief complaint, symptoms, current health status, past medical health history, current medications, allergies, family and social history. Before I will enter the patient’s room, I ensure to wash my hands or use the hand sanitizer gel to prevent the spread of infection. I start my assessment my introducing myself to the patient. However, sceptics have questioned how the concept is sometimes interpreted, arguing that there is unclear logical and pragmatic examination of its value in professional development. Therefore, developing a reflective report is an undertaking that needs to be approached with caution, more so if individual reflection and critical thinking are to be rooted. The purpose of this reflective report is to reflect on the collaborative boat bus project performance and the experiences of working within a multidisciplinary group. The report will give consideration to the feedback we obtained from the client and from Adam Smith (tutor) and how we then applied this feedback to feed in the report writing. An iterative model, meaning learning through participating, somewhat adapted to the one in Bulman and Schultz (2013)’s ‘Reflective Practice in Nursing p232’, Gibbs (1988)’s reflective cycle explains the significance of the evaluation process, especially building on negative as well as positive feedback.…

I am glad you brought up that faculty needs to be “competent” in Evidence Based Practice (EBP). I had the opportunity to work for a college as a Clinical Adjunct Instructor (CAI). In doing so, CAI were required to monitor, teach, and be available for questions in the clinical lab prior to going to sites. I had a hard time adjusting to the skills check off list due to some of the skills were not up to date such as Foley catheter insertions. When I brought this to their attention including providing EBP literature.…

From midterm to current my CI allowed me to handle more of her caseload, observe online documentation, and weekly progress reports on her patients. She encouraged questions, and thoroughly explained why certain treatments and activities were better than others. She allowed for open communication of patient interventions, which made me feel comfortable enough to take on more of her case load and contributed to my visual, and hands on style of learning. From my initial visit to current my CI has ensured my environment promotes growth at my clinical site.…

Since researching this topic, my nursing practice has changed in the way that I interview, assess, and treat my clients. Throughout my education in nursing school I was always taught a more holistic approach, however I was never truly conducting my assessments and interviews with clients within this matter. I am always respectable and caring towards clients, but in my past practices within clinical, my focus was primarily on the disease process and preventing the disease from worsening. Within this semester I have improved my practice, with the help of this research, to not only treat the disease process, but to use the same focus as CAM and treat the person as a whole. I found this to also help in establishing better client-caregiver relationships.…

Reflection is a vital skill that all nurses should be competent at. The Royal College of Nursing (2017) suggests that reflection is a way to think about an activity or experience and consider what was positive and negative about it, enabling us to plan how we could do something differently or improve on for the future. The Oxford Dictionary of Nursing (2014) defines reflection as “the careful consideration of one’s own professional practice, including the ability to review, analyse, and evaluate situations during or after events (possibility using a recognised model)”. The Nursing and Midwifery Council (2017) encourages nurses to reflect, saying that it enables them to identify any changes or improvements to their practices and it’s an important…

Teamwork and collaboration, good communication, and confidence are the three strengths I believe I demonstrated during this rotation. My clinical rotation as a student nurse did not only imply observing the providers, but also meant active participation on my part. Being engaged, enabled me to put into practice what I have learned in theory. The first day of my rotation, the nurse permitted me to augment the Pitocin dose by two units after 20 minutes. I thought that was exciting because I learned about the medication in the class and participated in administering it.…
