When I first started reading, I didn’t see where the author was going with her essay and what points she was trying to make. I was very uninterested until she started elaborating on the importance of home. I would have liked it if Quindlen included a hook or a glimpse of her main idea in the first, or even the second paragraph. That would have drawn the reader in and made them curious about the rest of the essay.…

The day that I will always be able to remember the exact details, despite the shudder that would come from recalling it. I had had a pretty basic life up to now. I had an older brother in college and two parents who had taken me to church every Sunday since I was a little girl; despite the fact that my father and the rest of my family were Jewish.…

Maxwell opens each chapter, with real life stories, about people and how they reached success. The book also includes daily readings that highlight the twenty-one essential leadership qualities in each chapter. Readers are also helped with the included "Reflecting on It" and "Bringing It Home" sections. For example, in the section on vision, Maxwell describes how Walt Disney initially developed the theme-park concept after accompanying his daughters to a fun-filled but rather shabby amusement park. He then analyzes how Disney's resultant projects drew on his personal history and focused on meeting other people’s needs.…

Katherine’s final speech is both confusing, and complex. When analyzing this particular passage, you must consider all events that lead up to that moment. This includes Kate’s family life (how she was raised), her initial personality traits, how she is seen by society, and how she is treated by people close to her especially her father, sister, and Petruchio. Especially Petruchio who she is (pretty much) forced/ guilted into marrying out of obligation. This leads to the main question of the play is Kate actually ‘tamed’ or is she faking it to get what she wants?…

For this assignment, I chose to use my daughter, Kaylie who is a sixteen-year-old high school sophomore, as the participant. Before starting the activity, I asked her a series of questions that included “What is thinking?”, “What is learning?”, “What do you do when you need to remember something?”, “What things do you do in your head when you are trying to study for a test?”, and “Do you have any certain study techniques that you use when studying for a test or trying to learn new information?” These questions were examples of suggestions to use for this activity, and I also chose to include an additional question regarding study techniques. In response to the questions asked prior to the activity, Kaylie responded by interpreting to me that thinking is mental brainstorming and learning is the act of taking in new information to use for a purpose.…
