By getting their education, I would hope that they would pursue higher education to escape the cruel nature of the streets. By promoting and endorsing college campus tours and fieldtrips, I would hope that students would take an interest in wanting to attend college to better their life. Lastly, as a school counselor graduate, I want to listen to students about their environment. Because I didn’t grow up “in the hood” where I was exposed to violence, drugs, and crimes, I would want to know about their background so that I can use effective techniques and skills to counsel them. As their school counselor, being open minded and using my core conditions, especially being empathic and authentic will allow me to build rapport with them. As I continue to put myself out there and be visible, whether it’s communicating with students during supervision duties or school events will help me build rapport. After I success in building rapport with students, I would then want to build trust with them. As for the second problem, as I continue to build rapport with students I would then advertise my intervention program.
