As a law abiding citizen and a tax payer I find it absolutely ridiculous that I am unable to obtain something that I have a god given right to possess. According to the second amendment we have the right to “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed”. With our rights being stated it is absolutely ridiculous that citizens who are extremely responsible human beings are getting denied at no fault of their own. In many scenarios that I have personally witnessed, the Massachusetts government continues to fail its people more and more. With such strict gun laws, they are taken out of the hands of the people when they absolutely need them the most. As a personal encounter, my boss’s wife was inside The Tannery on Boylston St. when it was held at gunpoint, and without a firearm he was helpless and couldn’t do anything to protect them (Personal Interview, Teazis). Whereas I disagree wholeheartedly with this law, it is crucial to keep those who are mentally unstable or ill from acquiring these weapons. Even though it is still possible for those who are mentally ill to slip under the radar and acquire a license for to purchase and possess firearms these laws keep them from doing even more harm. Furthermore, these laws are in place for a reason. These extremely strict gun laws do good for those who are residents in Massachusetts, “Massachusetts has one of the lowest death rates for firearms with 3.37 deaths per 100,000 residents. This is directly due to the fact that Massachusetts has only a 14.3% ownership rate”
