Study one; “Black women and how they cope with stress”, is a qualitative study done by researchers that used many focus groups to collect data from black women. This study evaluated what exactly it is about their workplace that causes stress and what are the many ways that each of the women did to cope with it. The data that was used was collected from three different cities: Boston and Northampton Massachusetts; Knoxville, Tennessee; and Brooklyn, New York. Embracing who they are and not being ashamed of it decreased the level of stress that many of these black women had. Others believe that just hiding their sexual orientation made it easier for them in their work environment and not face with any stress or stressors.
Third study “Exploring the Stress-Support-Distress Process Among Black Women “was done to residents in the city of New Orleans, Orleans Parish, Louisiana. Before starting their experiment, researchers insinuated that Black women, being minorities are exposed to greater levels of stress and higher levels of psychological distress. It looked to see if chronic stressors had any psychical effects on black women.
