Strengths Of Teamwork

Team building was also a strength our team implied. Our team never encountered any conflicts with each other while working on this project. When we were all assigned roles in the project everyone seemed pleased with what their responsibilities were. Everyone’s ideas were always heard and we were able to come up with a solution to a problem as a group. We seemed to get along very well, help each other out with any parts we had trouble with and get the job done by the expected date.
We also encountered some weakness that our team had that kind of backed up our group but we were able to overcome them. Procrastination was a huge problem for us at the beginning of the project. We had to do our projects proposal and we seemed to leave it to the last few days before it was due. Team Lean Logistics had a difficult time trying to understand what the requirements were specifically asking us to do. We would talk about it as a team but wouldn’t put much effort into doing it and kept postponing it. Giving our team only 1 or 2 days to prepare it was really stressful. Team building is crucial during the start of the project because many of the members assigned may not know each other. Attending meetings and doing team-oriented activities will help everyone get to know each other better. Being well acquainted earlier in the group gives everyone a better start to the project. Also it is important do these group-oriented activities since the project will last the whole semester. Introduce each other and exchange emails, phone numbers, schedules, and set up a group chat. This basic technique provides a good communication with the team as a whole. It keeps everyone informed regarding any updates, changes that are being made, or concerns anyone might have. Keeping everyone informed leads the team to move forward and not be delayed due to poor

What is your team’s approach to completing the project? This project is difficult for anyone to complete in an online class setting such as this. However, this is not because of any task that is assigned for this project, but because this assignment forces us to learn to effectively communicate with each other to complete a common goal. We began communicating early this week regarding what we need to accomplish in order to complete this project, and we have come to a conclusion.…

As previously stated, there are two other major organizational projects being worked on simultaneously using many of the same resources. Combined with summer vacation requests, scheduling large meetings proved to be very challenging and were ineffective in adding to production value. The project was broken down into three sub-groups; Checking Account Development, Visa Development, and Marketing, Training, and Employee Development. These groups were made by looking at the strengths that all of the team members possessed and delegating tasks within those boundaries. The project leaders understood that with the scheduling and staffing constraints that were present the team’s time was valuable and needed to be respected.…

Rube Goldberg and Beyond As a High School Physics student in my Junior year, I was placed on a team and asked to build a Rube Goldberg machine. I had seen several YouTube videos on these ball rolling, random ramps, fast moving machines…but were we able to build our own construction marvel for extra credit? Rube Goldberg began his career as an engineer and later to become a American Pulitzer Prize winning cartoonist. His vision of taking everyday household items and making them into crazy inventions that helped solve simple problems like ringing a bell, opening a door or moving an object, inspired me that I could create a Rube Goldberg machine.…

First, what worked well was how our group integrated our individual skills together to complete the project. When we introduced ourselves and what our concentrations were, it was easy to determine what roles and responsibilities we would take on. We worked individually on our tasks before meeting together and integrating everything into the final product. The problems that arose primarily concerned communication and scheduling group meetings.…

Describe a lesson/project/process when you worked with peers in this class, including the general contributions required of each team member. One teamwork assignment we did this past semester was analyzing poetry. Each member had to play a part by either using symbolism or literary figures. As a collaborator, my strengths were that I made sure that everything got done on time and that it was done right. My weaknesses were that I didn’t really talk to my group as much as I should have and I kind of didn’t put responsibility on anyone but myself. Group work requires talking to others, otherwise you’ll just pull all of the weight and the other group members will get a free ride. Honestly, I feel comfortable controlling the whole process of group work and have people just follow what I say so I know that things are getting done right. This is probably not good, but I don’t feel like I can trust groups because a lot of the time people don’t do what they’re supposed to.…

On the other hand, you have to be authoritative sometimes when the work is not done at the right time. Another challenge was making sure that everyone was available at the team meetings. This was hard task because situations always came up and people were not always able to attend. Whether you are a part of a social group or on a group project for school or work everyone has the want and need to be included, when group members don’t feel like they have fully been accepted in to the group they can become withdrawn and anti-social which would lead them to not be a contributing part of the team. Having a diverse group of people on a team can help a team more effectively and efficiently reach their common goal. If everyone on the team had the exact same life experiences, was the same age and the same culture they more than likely would have the same general way to approach the group’s common goal. Having diversity on the team can help generate more ideas because everyone’s life experiences and cultural differences have helped form the way they think and the way that they solve problems. Roles, needs and diversity affect a group’s teamwork immensely because if members aren’t performing their specific goal and only focusing on a self-centered role the groups work will either multiply for the other members of the group or the group’s common goal might not be met.…

We all tried, but I think some of us took the project more seriously than others. Kevin was always late to our meetings event though when we created the team contract we agreed to be punctual unless there was an emergency. I doubt that there was an emergency every single week when we met. I think Amy and myself did most of the work, we had to assign work for Kevin and Shaohui to do otherwise they would not take the initiative to do something unless we asked them to do it which was frustrating because Kevin was supposed to be the project manager and it was his responsibility to make sure that we were doing our part and being the leader of the team. I am not saying that it was all his responsibility because we are all adults and can do our part, but what I am saying is that they were not behaving as adults.…

Reflection Paper II Throughout my college experience here in the Carroll School of Management, group work and the ability to work well with others has been emphasized greatly. This makes sense, because in a professional environment, the ability to communicate, listen and contribute within a group leads to success and the achievement of goals. However, none have gone on as long as this project, making it a more realistic example of working on a team. Junior year of college is definitely a crazy time, as we are forced to balance heavy workloads with extracurriculars and recruiting.…
