Caring and therapeutic relationships are interrelated, as nursing can be defined as the comprehension and art of caring, whereas caring can be conveyed as a relational interaction (Arli, Bakan, Ozturk, Erisik, & Yildirim, 2017). Therapeutic relationships include the utilization of silence, understanding, observation, openness, expression, time, encouragement, trust, and reflection (Mirhaghi, Sharafi, Bazzi, & Hasanzadeh, 2017). Caring to me is a myriad of intertwined components. Losing sight of any one may compromise the final outcome. Caring is compassion and empathy that creates meaningful connections between the healthcare provider and those being cared for, much like a bandage on an open wound. Enyeart et al., (2017) reflect on the importance of recognizing that, within each of these factors there is another layer of diversity, one between each individual. Our personalities, true colours, strengths, vulnerabilities, beliefs, and opinions all make us unique and diverse from one another. Studies show there has been a lack of cohesion between diverse populations related to discrimination, marginalization, and stigmatization (Enyeart et al.,
