Assessing the Effectiveness of a Storyboard
I have chosen to write on the “The Power of Commitment: Improved Communication in Critical Cases” story board. This storyboard was picked from the Radiological Society of North America. Within, my storyboard of choice all of the performance improvement process steps was documented.
The storyboard documented the need for improvement of critical radiological test results. Critical results were defined as: “ a finding which needs immediate intervention and life threatening or can result in severe permanent harm”. (A Noor, H R Coopersmith, MD, & J J Naidich, 2015) This definition was based on the ACR’s Practice Paramenter for Communication of Diagnostic Imaging Findings.

The compiled the data by using a software package named Montage. The software used natural language to process flags to determine the documentation that was documented correctly and incorrectly within the documentation. Furthermore, as this problem was one of the most likely claims paid, it was the 6th most common claim against radiologist.
The measurable’s were to collect one month of pre-intervention documentation and continue active monitoring. The next two months reports were to be monitored on a monthly basis for the purpose of documented communication to be discussed within the staff meetings. Documentation of the measurable, relevant and attainable timeline was included within the storyboard.
Monthly meetings were held with the staff regarding the improvement plan of action. The analysis for various reasons were not good originally. There was some disagreement about the definition of a critical result . Although, the communication got better the documentation was found to be lacking. Over time, the outcomes improved by repetition of the critical result communicated at the staff meetings, and the commitment of their chairman to improve the feedback on the staff performance along with improved
