In “The Story of Keesh” Keesh was able to survive in the arctic for 13 years with his village. In “The Story of Keesh” the text states “He was a bright boy, so the tale runs, healthy and strong, and he had seen thirteen suns, in their way of reckoning time.”(pg. 61) In the extreme cold environment you must be strong both physically and mentally to survive. The text states “Nay, O Klosh-Kwan. It is not for a boy to know aught of witches I know nothing. I have devised a means whereby I may kill the ice-bear with ease, that is all. It be headcraft, not witchcraft.” (pg. 72) Also Keesh shows how intelligent, he is on page 62 “The hunters, grizzled and gray,and lusty and young, were aghast. The like had never been seen before. A child that talked like a grown man, and said harsh things to their very faces!”
In conclusion Keesh and Pi are very strong and intelligent characters. They were able to survive in their extreme environment for a long period of time. They both had the confidence in themselves to survive in their environment. They both knew how to survive in their environment and they used all of their available resources to help them survive as long as possible. Pi had enough food and water to keep himself alive for 124 days and Keesh hunted so much he fed his village equally so they woudn’t
