Steven Spielberg as Inspired by Frank Capra
Throughout the short history of film, many directors have arisen that stand out in history. These directors have defined generations and created lasting legacies. These legacies carry on to future directors of future generations; be it the techniques used by directors, or the ideas and themes in their films. One such director that has been credited as an influence for a modern director is, Frank Capra, who inspired the works of Steven Spielberg.
Steven Spielberg is one of the most well-known film directors of the modern era. He has been involved in several critically acclaimed films such as: Saving Private Ryan, E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial, and Schindler’s List. Of his numerous awards, he has been nominated 132 times, won 168 awards. Of these wins, two of them were Oscars for Best Director (Saving Private Ryan, Schindler’s List), and one of the Oscars was for Best Picture for Saving Private Ryan. (“Stephen Spielberg”, 2014).
Frank Capra, was a film director from 1922 to 1964. During this time, he created several masterpieces, such as Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, It Happened One Night, and It’s a Wonderful Life. The film starts in George’s childhood, where he loses hearing in one of his ears saving his little brother’s life. Following a series of events that leads George and Mary Hatch together, Uncle Billy losses $8,000 of the money earned by George’s company. Due to this, George begins to contemplate suicide, due to imminent bankruptcy.
