Steve Almond, in his article, “Why you should stop watching football” backed up his argument based on a variety of arguments such as personal experiences, quotes and researches. The good thing is that all arguments support the idea of stop watching football, but I am not sure if this is convincing enough or not. Football is a very popular and an entertaining sport. It is quite hard to convince its huge number of million fans to stop watching it. The author's purpose is to persuade the audiences stop watching football concentrating on the emotional part of the readers, but I could not be convinced and I am going to explain why.

He related his mother dementia to the problem of playing football, in order to present the topic of stop watching football games. Personal experiences are very well known to be considered tempting and unwise for backing up an argument, unless the author is considered to be a recognized expert. Another point is that personal experiences differ from a person to another and so are people’s reactions toward the same problem. For example, in case of theft people might differ in term of their reaction. Some people might just stand and call 911, while others might run after the thief trying to catch him. This might explain why personal experiences are pretty hard to use for convincing due to the differences in reactions. The first person that should be convinced is the author himself, but he does not look like. At the end of the fourth paragraph the author look like he is contradicting himself by saying:” I feel duty-bound to explain my decision to quit watching the game, which I can’t help but still love”(Steve). The author stated that he stopped watching football games but he still love it. This might lead the author and cause him a loss in term of his credibility and showing more contradictions. For example, the possibility of him coming back to watch the games is always available by saying that he still loves football. In fact, love might push him to go back and watch the games another
