Many athletes use steroids or performance and enhancing drugs (PEDS) so they can depend on their bodies for their livelihoods, but don’t know the consequences of taking these drugs. A consequence athletes face when taking steroids, is getting stripped from the awards they earned throughout their career. In the article “Steroids An Overview” by Quezzaire, Pilar, Sprague, and Nancy it states, “ In 2012, legendary cyclist Lance Armstrong was stripped of his professional wins, including seven Tour de France championships, amid accusations that he used performance-enhancing drugs throughout the peak of his career”(Quezzaire, Pilar, Sprague, and Nancy). The steroids the Benoit took did not only cause him to kill himself, but he also killed his wife and son. The third consequence that athletes face when taking steroids, is being face to face with growth stunt or heart disease. Quezzaire, Pilar, Sprague, and Nancy in the article say ,“ The use of steroids for these purposes is illegal as well as dangerous; studies have shown that anabolic steroid use can lead to serious behavioral problems, heart disease, stunted growth, bone degeneration, and even death”(Quezzaire, Pilar, Sprague, and Nancy). If an athlete takes any kind of steroids, they put their life on the line because taking steroids could cause death. The final consequence an athlete faces when taking steroids, is the possibility of going to jail.
