What is Stereotyping? Stereotyping is widely held but fixed and oversimplified image or the idea of a particular type of person or thing. In our society, a lot of people put labels with a thought about people or certain things. For example, blondes are not intelligent and superficial.
The stereotype that blondes are not intelligent has been around for a very long time. There are even movies that have been written about this topic. For example, the movie Legally Blonde starring Reese Witherspoon. In the movie, Reese Witherspoon plays a young girl named Ell Woods who is the president of her sorority, Kappa Nu. Paris Hilton was made famous through her dad the owner of the Hilton hotels. She also is known for her has her fashionable clothesline and perfume line. However, what she is mostly known for is her lake of intelligence. She has had multiple shows made mocking her and lack of knowledge.
Now for the superficial part of the rumor. Being blonde does not mean you get to skate through life solely based on looks. In the movie Clueless, the main character Cher is the perfect definition of a bolded blood who has had everything handed to her. Using her popularity, she takes a new girl at school under her wing and gives her a complete makeover In the movie, she is mocked on how she is “clueless” and gets away with things that people normally would not.
All in all, the color of ones’ hair does not define them as a person. The color of a persons’ hair and a persons’ IQ have no correlation. The stereotype of “dumb blondes” is a stereotype that has been milked for years throughout the entertainment industry.
