I felt hurt. I felt like this is what the world thinks of me, as a weirdo. Now, I will totally call myself weird in any means necessary, because it’s true. But when people I don’t even know all calling me weird, strange, different, it hurts. That’s called stereotyping. “Stereotyping means holding a general or fixed belief or notion about others without proof or validity.” I’m here today to talk about stereotyping. How to avoid stereotyping, how to know when you are stereotyping or being stereotyped, and how to ignore being stereotyped. I’d like to start off with a quote. “If you can’t say something nice, don’t say nothing at all.” We’ve all heard this quote from the Disney movie Bambi, or at least heard it as a kid from either your parents or teachers. So the first way that you can avoid stereotyping others, is to not say anything. If you have to think twice about if what you’re about to say will hurt someone’s feelings, don’t say it at all. Although this may resolve not stereotyping out loud, it’s even better to not stereotype
