The influence of the media is less immediate and straightforward because the effect may not be evident immediately; but it is subtle and has a long term consequence. The films may be regarded as harmless but they sow the seed of gender inequality in children even at an early age. Some of the Disney films enjoyed by the boys and girls shape the way they see themselves in terms of their roles and how they are expected to relate with each other. The films project the image of masculinity and perpetuate women as object of pleasure and service to men. The boys are inspired to believe that masculinity is established by physical prowess, violence, dominance and willingness to fight and exert authority which must be maintained at all cost. Women now have better education and enhanced economic power; these have brought about some changes in domestic roles. For example, my friend who is a registered nurse has a better paying job than her husband. This influence their decision for the man to take the responsibility of child minding and other domestic chores while the woman has more time to pursue her career.
