She stated that, “... the companies trick little girls into buying the pink stuff instead of stuff that boys want to buy, right?” How does this little girl understand stereotyping of genders better than the rest of the world? Riley is completely right about children wanting to have princesses and superheroes. Some male children want to wear dresses and be princesses like girls get to. For example, a mother of a young boy wrote to The Natural Child Project bloggers and asked if her son who cried every time she said no to him wearing a dress. This mother automatically assumed her son was gay or will grow up to have gay tendencies. Even parents fall into the trap of stereotypes of gender. Riley was very correct about young boys and girls both liking princesses and superheroes. For children it is not one or the other. No child needs to conform to society’s gender role
