Prejudice is a negative view of an entire category of people. It is often based on the groups ethnicity and being a racial minority. These negative views often create stereotypes due to false ideologies of individuals within a minority. Prejudice is created by thinking that a certain culture is superior to others. Stereotypes are unreliable and are generalizations about all members of a group. It causes people to overlook the individual differences and characteristics within a large group.

A citizens hostility towards immigrants is based on their ethnic, religious and racial background. The citizens of a country want to maintain their culture and feel that immigrants may not reflect the same culture and beliefs. The citizens may also feel that existing jobs are all being taken by the immigrants leaving the nation in a job shortage. The immigrants may not stimulate the economy because they may send the money they earn back to their home country. Also, areas accepting a high numbers of immigrants may experience a depletion of their community resources. There is also the concern of inviting a terrorist into the country which would compromise the safety of their own citizens. People view illegal immigrants as a drain on jobs and resources while contributing nothing back to the country.
