show “Too Close to Home” is about a young woman who is forced to go back home after her political career is destroyed due to a scandal. She brings a friend with her and he gets beaten up. They take him to see her ex-boyfriend’s dad who has been a retired doctor for several years. They do this because it’s an emergency and he was the nearest thing to medical help they could get.
The ex-boyfriend’s dad is an accurate representation because his son takes care of him after his wife died several years ago. He is mostly bald with white hair. He walks normal without a cane. He is a little bit hard of hearing and he has sleep changes. When they bring the guy to him he struggles to remember what to do since he’s been retired for so long, but eventually it all comes back to him just in time to save the guys life. He also tends to keep to himself.
The message that this sends is that not all older adults forget how to do things. It may take them a few minutes to remember but they eventually get it. They are also not incompetent people who can’t do the thing they use to.
Some positive things are that not every older adult has trouble walking or uses a cane to get around. Also, not every older adult has some type of dementia. They are still able to do the thing they use to when they were younger, they are just slower at it
