Stereotypes
In the 21st century, there are still very diverse social issues and stereotyping is one of them. Social issues affect the society negatively and people need to make a change and spread more awareness. So how can stereotypes be bad and how do they get created. First, you may think what is a stereotype? well, “any time you’re grouping races or individuals together to make a judgment about them without knowing them, this is an example of a stereotype" ("Common Stereotype"). This is a simple and clear example to understand what is stereotyping. The students taking tests in a stereotype threat condition may become inefficient on the test by rereading the questions and the answer choices, as well as rechecking their answers, more than not under the threat. It also can make the person asking when getting a low grade, "Is it something about me or because of my race?". It is important to understand that the person may experience a threat even if he or she does not believe the stereotype, (McLeod).
Stereotyping in fact, creates a gap between people and divide them into groups. It can also lead people to live lives driven by hate, and can cause the victims of those stereotypes to be driven by fear. For example, many gays and lesbians are afraid to admit their sexuality in fear of being judged.
