Stephen F. Austin is a texan that was born on November 3rd 1793. He is the oldest of three children. Stephens family moved to southeastern missouri in 1798.he did not begin formal education until he was 11.he went to a school called bacon academy. then In 1809 he began to study at the college called transylvania university.He graduated a year later from the college.after college. He started studying to be a lawyer.At age 21 he served in the legislature of missouri. he had to work many jobs because his family owed a large amount of money to the government.one of his jobs was at his dad's lead mine he started working there when he was 17. Stephen F austin took his dad's place and by 1824 the old three hundred were in texas.He only wanted honest hard working people to be part of the old three hundred. He would get 67,000 acres of land because an empresario got 67,000 acres of land for settling 200 families in texas. He also got elected as for the provisional government that texas had made.Stephen f austin helped texs out in the texas revolution.Austin took temporary command of the texas army in the siege of bexar.Austin also tried running for president. Austin felt confident that he could win the election against sam houston and henry smith.He thought wrong though because Stephen F austin only got 587 vote sam houston got 5119 and henry smith got 743 votes. Stephen F austin lost the election by a lot. But sam houston appointed that stephen F austin would be the secretary of state for the new republic.He served two months as the secretary of state then died on december 27 1836 Stephen austin had a lot of achievements throughout his lifetime.Some of his achievements include that he was the first secretary of state.
